100 Days Smarter

Happy 100th Day of School!!

100th Day

Today we celebrated the 100th day of school! We had so many fun activities we just couldn't fit them all in. We started the day by finishing up our 100 day crowns. While we finished coloring those Mrs. Naatjes' read a story called Happy 100th Day! After that we make a Fruit Loop necklace. We put 100 Fruit Loops on the necklace. Next we made a picture of what we would look like if we were 100 years old. We did a writing to go with our picture.

During math, we shared our collections. We noticed how different 100 could look. Some friends had mini marshmallows that didn't take up much space while 100 regular marshmallows did. It was cool to see the different ways 100 can look. Next we filled out a 100's chart and then played the game Rolling to 100.

Finally we finished up the day by learning about estimation. We estimated how many times we could do different things in 100 secords. Then we put our estimations to the test and did different times for 100 seconds. A few of the thigns we did were to see how many times we could clap, how many times we could count to 10 in 100 seconds, how many times we could hop up and down, how many times we could say the alphabet and a few other activities. Overall, we had a very fun and very BUSY 100th Day!

Groundhog's Day

On Groundhog's Day, we learned about what groundhogs are and where they lived. We learned that they live in a burrow. We made our own groundhog and burrow. We got to decorate our burrow however we would like. It was really cute to see what the kids came up with. He had many disco/party filled burrows. Very cute. Along with creating the burrow we also did a writing describing what we drew. The kids did a very nice job with this.

Life Under the Ice

This past Thursday our class went to the Nature Center. We got to experience life under the ice. This was a great learning experience to tie together our unit of study about water. Here are a few pictures from our trip.

Chinese New Year Parade

~Chinese New Year~ Reading Month Theme~

It is reading month! The theme is Chinese New Year. We had done a lot of fun things so far. We had a kick off for it by building a Great Wall of Readers in the hall. We learned what the Great Wall of China is and then we got to create a wall of readers. All the kids in the whole school went into the hallway to read. After reading, we got to enjoy a orange to symbolize the lucky friend of China. *Thank you to the Hicks Family for donating those to our class!

We also made crafts for the Dragon Parade. On Friday, we had a parade with the entire school to show off the things we have been busy working on. It was fun for everyone to see what we have been doing.

Oobleck

Matter

To learn more about matter we made Oobleck. Oobleck is like slime. Is is something that shows the properties of both solid and liquids. The kids had to decided if it was a solid or liquid. After much debate and reasoning we figured out this is something that has properties of both! How cool!

We also had a high school helper in our room for J Term. Miss Katie taught the kids about solid, liquids and gases. She had the kids make a root beer float and talked to the kids about the 3 properties of matter that are shown in a root beer float.
